Fernie will soon be home to Starbucks. The new franchise is located on Highway 3 next to Mountain Spirits Liquor store, the Best Western, Canadian Tire, Extra Foods, Tim Horton’s and McDonalds.
The new Starbucks will compete for Fernie’s highway coffee business with Tim Hortons, the Canadian coffee icon, and MacDonalds. The traffic on Hwy 3 that stop for services will now have a decent coffee option.
Downtown Fernie has several boutique coffee shops including Freshies, Mug Shots and the Loaf Bakery.
Starbucks is also currently expanding in China. “Every store is an expression of our passion to share our coffee knowledge and culture with Chinese customers,” said John Boline, director of Starbucks Concept Design Team in Shanghai.
Fernie is a bit closer to Seattle, Starbucks headquarters, however as distant as China. Perhaps Fernie is finally on the world stage!
