This month’s Intellectual Property Show features ANGIE ABDOU.

Local Fernie writer Angie Abdou has published seven books and co-edited Writing the Body in Motion, a collection of essays on Canadian Sport Literature. Her first novel, The Bone Cage, was a Canada Reads’ finalist. A starred-review in New York’s Booklist declared her best-selling memoir, Home Ice: Reflections of a Reluctant Hockey Mom, “a first rate memoir and a fine example of narrative nonfiction.” Abdou is Associate Professor of Creative Writing at Athabasca University. This One Wild Life launches April 13.

She will read from In Case I Go.
“The past reaches up from the soil of In Case I Go to grab hold of its characters and readers alike, refusing to let go. Angie Abdou has written a grown-up work of fantasy, transporting as it is grounded and real.” – Andrew Pyper, author of The Only Child and The Demonologist

WHAT TO EXPECT:
We’ll start each session with our featured writer, then open the floor for attendees to share up to seven minutes of work. This can be novels, screenplays, scripts, shorts, works in progress or poetry/verse, for example.
If you want to read, please arrive before 3 pm to get your name on the reading list. First come, first served!
We’ll open the room at 2:30 pm for socializing. Please come with your video on, at least at the beginning so everyone can see your beautiful self. (If this is an issue, please talk to the host when you arrive.) We’ll start sharp at 3 pm. Afterwards, we’ll have more socializing.

We suggest a donation of $2 to $5, etransferring to malcolm (at) malcolmvandelst.com. This goes towards paying our featured presenters, meetup (~$20/mo) & Zoom ($20/mo) fees, our society incorporation and (hopefully) an upcoming anthology. Covid has put a cramp in our society and anthology plans for the time being. You will be informed as to how much money is collected in our weekly email. Donation is a suggestion only–please pay what you can but come!
