Fernie Alpine Resort is proud to announce the return of the Junior Freeski Competition. Fernie is once again one of the IFSA National events stops on the 2014 IFSA (International Freeskiers Association) Junior Freeski Tour. Winners of the Fernie event will gain points towards being the North American Junior Freeski Champion and win great prizes from our sponsors! Come out and watch some of the best junior freeskiers in North America display their skills here at Fernie Alpine Resort.

Competitors will display their skiing skills on natural terrain while being judged on 5 categories – Line Choice, Control, Fluidity, Technique and Style/Energy. To align with the IFSA qualification standards the event is open to skiers ages 12-18 with 4 categories – Boys 12-14, Girls 12-14, Boys 15-18 and Girls 15-18. All age cut off dates are based off of the age turned prior to December 31, 2013. The only exception is juniors 18 years of age may stay in the junior category until turning 19. Even if said junior turns 19 in the middle of the season, that athlete must move into the adult category events.

Entry fee for the event this year is $130.
Registration will be done online at Athletepath.
Lift tickets are not included in the registration fee but discounted lift tickets for competitors and coaches will be available onsite at registration/check in.

All competitors MUST have a 2014 IFSA membership in order to compete in the event. Memberships can be purchased on the IFSA website

Being part of the IFSA North American Junior Series, registration will be done according to the series pre-qualification registration protocol. Pre-qualified athletes (based on their standings from last season) will get to register first, followed by ski team quota athletes. Following that registration will open for the public. For more information on pre-qualified status and ski team quotas please visit the IFSA website.

Registration will be done in waves to accommodate this qualification process. Competitors must have their IFSA membership prior to registering.
Registration will open as follows:
Pre-qualified athlete registration – Opens Dec 2nd at 7pm MST and will remain open for 24 hours
Team quota registration – Opens Dec 5th at 7pm MST and will remain open for 4 days.
Open (public) Registration – Opens the week of Dec 9th with events staggered through the week
– Fernie’s public registration will open on Dec 10th at 8pm MST and will remain open until the event is full

Event schedule will be finalized closer to the event date. Tentative schedule is as follows (will be subject to change once registration is complete).
Thursday, Feb. 20th – Competitor Check In & Inspection
Friday, Feb. 21st – 12-14 category qualifiers
Saturday, Feb. 22nd – 15-18 category qualifiers Sunday, Feb. 23rd – Finals

Helmets are mandatory for all competitors and all competitors must have valid medical insurance to compete in the event (USA competitors must ensure their medical coverage extends to Canada and to the nature of our event).

The Fernie Junior Freeski will also be part of the RCR Jeep Junior Freeski Series which includes Junior events at Fernie Alpine Resort, Kimberley Alpine Resort and Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Competitors that attend the RCR events can earn points towards being crowned the RCR Jeep Freeski Series Champion. Please note that Kimberley Jr. Freeski will take place on January 25-26 and the Kicking Horse Junior Freeski event will take place March 1-2. Both the Kimberley and Kicking Horse event will be IFSA Regional qualification events and are open to skiers ages 7-18 (so both events will include 7-11 categories). Registration for those events will occur in Mid-December.
