how come lawyers didn’t play into this survey?! Council needs a well-rounded representation from the community, as do any civic policy groups. Many are not keen with how many real estate agents are on council, as they should be. What happened to representation!?
kwishParticipantHaha, I like the part about blinka nd you’ll miss it! Many people still do…still doesn’t have the greatest economy or sustainablity, and haha, still no fast foos restuarants. Let’s see, how many bars shut down last spring, and now how many fast food restaurants. Things are slowing down in Fernie. And a real estate agent can’t make a difference to that…the US, Canada, everywhere is starting to feel the pain.
kwishParticipantI have two friends coming into town end of November. They both work at ski instructors on the ski hill. They are in need of a furnished place. Is this still available and how much are you asking? You can email me at kwishlow@yahoo.com
kwishParticipanthow much are you asking?
kwishParticipantI’m pretty sure this place is past the ski hill on the way to Cranbrook. It’s a farm outside of town.
kwishParticipantwhere is this place located? What area of town?
kwishParticipantthe tax man is watching "W" the most b/c you tried to rent your suite out weekly. Only monthly or longer rentals are allowed in Fernie. Affordable housing is a huge issue…..for locals. Why help tourists find a place to stay when local people have no place to live. Are you new to town "W"?
kwishParticipantHope you find something soon. It is tough…..I’ve been watching the rental market since spring out here. last winter I started looking in August and we were almost out of a house. Fernie is tough, there isn’t a lot for rentals. More will come out though….some people don’t post until the job fair, which is when most people come to town too.
kwishParticipantSorry this room has been rented. Thanks for all the interest.
kwishParticipantSorry this room has been rented. Thanks for all the interest.
kwishParticipantThere isn’t much available for daycare if any…not that that matters as I think you have teens, but this is based on the comment that young families are leaving…..housing issues and daycare shortage!
kwishParticipantNot having kids here, but being of the mid 20’s age group….Fernie has affordable housing issues to the extreme! Working couples / professionals cannot afford to buy in this town, myself included. And what you can afford, is a tear down.
There is issues between locals and tourists. There was a seminar held last fall with special attention paid to this matter. It is a concern. Note that locals are true locals, and even if you are here for 30 years, you are still not a local. Some teens who were born and raised here are not considered locals. Fernie is a small town, that’s an attitude here.
However with that being said, Fernie is a great place. If you move to one of the areas that is populated by fulltime residents, you will be happier. The most people complain about here….well sadly are the Albertans, mostly the Calgarians who trot into their vacation homes for a weekend or 2 weeks out of the year. It’s sad b/c they and other "tourists" are buying up affordable locals housing in order to use it as a vacation home, while locals can no longer afford to buy.
Hopefully things will change….eventually.
LIke I said, without kids of my own, I have never heard about issues….bikes being stolen, yes, but that’s about it. Check out the housing market before you set down in Fernie……
kwishParticipantIs this still available? I’d be interested in viewing…..I’ve been in Fernie for almost 2 years, and would like to find a palce on my own….can call me at 250.278.7244

And it’s 4 blocks to the hitching spot to the ski hill. Think about it and let me know….asking around 675 dependent on utilities.
