griz-boyParticipant
That’s a interesting point of view. You should send that to RCR.
griz-boyParticipantNew Prices! Still for sale.
griz-boyParticipantI skied Sushine for the first time in 4 years. The ticket price was like $63. Comparible to Fernie. Sunshine doesn’t even compare to the challenging terrain Fernie has. They do open earlier and stay open later but that’s just cause Fernie doesn’t have the elevation Sunshine has. Not saying Sunshine was terrible but it is flat for the most part. And as for development and amenities, it has the same dated amenities. Which I don’t really mind at a ski resort.
Fernie 1 Sunshine 0
Next report is Kicking Horse.
griz-boyParticipantI think it will be a really fun time. I do have my differences but I have already expressed them. Still on the fence if going or not.
Who ever is organizing it please post all the specifics for the people on this forum! Times, bands, djs, tickets, where to meet for the bus, etc.
griz-boyParticipantI had a pretty good opening day weekend to. Boarded and found some good powder stashes in trees that didn’t get wind. In all a good time. Even the groomers were fast and fun. I didn’t hear one complaint, cept the Timber chair stopping 3 times thoughout the weekend and the Bear once. It was like I was a magnet for getting stuck on chairs! I hope they resolve the issue of the sensor or whatever made it stop.
It seems that the grooming has stepped up a notch this year. Anyone else feel this is the same?
griz-boyParticipantWhy rip off the Mogul Smoker tradition? And its not just you its FAR. Something as sacred as sacrificing skiis to the Griz should not be taking lightly. As for saying the tradition is lost. Well yes I think it is but don’t bastardize it. Come up with your own idea instead of stealing one.
For the record I am going and I hope it fun but its not “The Mogul Smoker”. Plus my shuttle is only $10. Kidding.
Is there even going to be Mogul Smoker drinks flowing? If not you should have the GRIZ pale ale.
griz-boyParticipantReally what stops me from driving my buddies to Coal Creek and joining the party. Forget the $15. Anyway see you there, should be fun!!
griz-boyParticipantHow old is it and what’s its condition?
thx

You might have a hard time renting it out in the summer at the resort. Its a simple business fact, supply and demand.
griz-boyParticipantGreat now the single ratio is 876 to 2, guys to girls. Have fun in the loops, at least you will get some winter sun!
September 29, 2005 at 3:45 pm in reply to: Advice needed on buying a property in Fernie setting up chal #14117griz-boyParticipantWell Wilko everybody will have a different answer. Here’s mine:
I spent two weeks in Fernie during the 2003/2004 ski season and fell in love with the place!
[i:h7rxljfy]Most people do and not uncommon for Brit’s to buy property here on impulse.[/i:h7rxljfy]I am looking to make a permanent move over there next year in preparation for the 2006/2007 season and I am looking to purchase a large property to run as a catered guesthouse.
I don’t really know the area extensively but could anyone point me in the right direction with a few things.
Would I be better to look at property on the hill or in the town?
[i:h7rxljfy]The resort would be your best bet because of its close proximity to ski hill ammenities.[/i:h7rxljfy]If in the town, where is the best area to be located, bearing in mind I want to operate year round for biking/fishing/hiking etc.
[i:h7rxljfy]See above. I feel people want the mountain experience when vacationing in the mountains, and a lodge will give that. The homes in town have historical charm but don’t give you the lodge feeling you would get at the resort. That said there are many affordable B&B’s in town.[/i:h7rxljfy]I’ve seen a big rise in property prices in the past 2 years there, do you feel these will continue to rise with more development on the ski hill?
[i:h7rxljfy]Still rising just not at a silly rate anymore.[/i:h7rxljfy]I am a freindly laid back British guy, when I was last there it was a very friendly place and i’m hoping I would be accepted and fit in with the community. Is there any hostility towards “foreigners” coming over there and setting up in business?
[i:h7rxljfy]A foreigner in Fernie is someone that hasn’t had there great grandfather live in Fernie. So we are all foreigners. As you say Fernie is laid back if you treat people kindly they will treat you with the same respect, cept the skids.[/i:h7rxljfy]Any help greatly appreciated. I will be combining a ski trip with some investigation work in January and cant wait to be out there again!
[i:h7rxljfy]Hope your investigation goes well, Sherlock.[/i:h7rxljfy]griz-boyParticipantI got a pay as u go Telus phone and the coverage is OK, but what gets me is its getting pretty expensive and if you don’t have a lan line then it could become really expensive! 20 cents a minute for local calls and 40 cents a minute for long distance. I t includes voice mail but you have to call in and retreive them so once you go through the prompt its hard to listen to 1 voice mail under a minute. Plus it not like they round anything down either. 1minute 1 second is 2 minutes. Blasted TELUS!!!
griz-boyParticipantScotia, CIBC, TD, and East Kootenay CC
griz-boyParticipantNo RBC bank or ATM in Fernie. Sparwood and Cranbrook are the closest banks. Sparwood being a 20 minute drive and Cranbrook a 1 hour drive.
griz-boyParticipantAlpine Living Group is what you call community living. People purchase lots and build there homes on them. Most people will take loans out from the bank which we call morgages. For someone like me it will take 20 years to pay off a bank morgage.
Rent to own just doesn’t happen in Fernie.
Unless your sitting on a load of cash don’t waste your time about purchasing in Alpine Trails. Look in the city area or West Fernie. Mobile homes on Slalom Drive are affordable for the first time home buyer.
