working, living, 4 months in canada over the ski season

Hey all.
Me and a mate are heading over to fernie this season for some skiing and working hopefully around the resort.
Thing is we are both 18 so need to hang around in Australia untill our exams are done on about the 18th of November.
We have booked flights and will be there on the 23rd of Nov.
From what it sounds this might be a little late. What kind of situation ar we in here?

please give us any tips on how to find work and an affordable living situation for the 4/5 months we are there.
