ParticipantHi all,
For those of you renting, whether it be as landlord or tenant, I just wanted to point out that according to the Residential Tenancy Act of BC a landlord is not legally allowed to ask for a deposit for furnishings in a furnished rental, regardless of the circumstances. A landlord who does can be subject to a fine under the Act. A friend of mine was recently required to pay a "furniture deposit" on top of her half-month security deposit, and upon investigation, and a phone call to the RTO, received this information. The actual policy can be found here:
http://www.rto.gov.bc.ca/documents/GL29.pdf
I thought I should pass this along as few people are aware of this
