I’ve thought about this for soooooo long, like, years. And the more time that goes by, the fewer ideas I come up with. I am at the point now where I would actually be too scared to try a business in Fernie. I don’t have any real statistics, but it seems the average business life in Fernie is no more than 4 years. Of course there are a few that have survived the test of time (most franchises, the chinese food restaurants, anything to do with trades, the ski hill etc.), and a couple new businesses (Giv’er, Board Stiff, that girly gift store, Fernie Brewing Co.) that look promising, but they are few and far between. (I know theres more, no offence if I didn’t mention you:-) )
Nightlife in Fernie sucks, but due to seasonal business trends, I wouldn’t know what to do about that.
There is no where to buy decent clothing or electronics, but people have tried and I’m quite sure our small year-round population put a stop to those businesses.
I always thought an outfitters would do well, somewhere that sells hunting gear, camping equipment etc. but I have seen those come and go also.
Arcade? Nope, they drop like flys.
Petting Zoo? YEAA!!!!! …no.
All You Can Eat Pizza Buffet??? Well I guess if it could make enough cash, but it would definetly be abused!
Toy Store? Hobby Shop? Novelty Store?
What about services? I hear Fernie Mow N’ Snow is off to a good start. Residential Cleaning Service? That’d be something I would pay for if it was affordable enough! Although I would feel sorry for whoever had to organize this mess, but would leave good tips
I could go off forever, but I’ll leave it at this for now.
