As legend tells the story, the Griz is credited with the great powder in Fernie. This abundance of powder is unique to the Canadian Rockies, other ski hills such as Louise, Sunshine and Kicking Horse receive only a fraction of Fernie’s snowfall. Such an isolated freak of nature cannot be explained, it is the magic is the Griz and it is is obvious that he has returned to Fernie Snow Valley!
The snowpack is over a metre in early December, all the runs are open and the rocks are insulated by the snowpack. Snowshowing, crosscountry ski and snowmobile trails are also open and in great condition.
