Regional Wildfire Update

BC Wildfire Service has confirmed that Heiko’s Creek fire is currently under control and Galbraith Creek fire is being held—it’s less than one-tenth of a hectare.

With the Silver Basin Wildfire Evacuation Alert being lifted and all of the other fires in the East Kootenay region currently Under Control or Being Held, we can all breath a sigh of relief.

Galbraith Creek Fire – Discovered September 10
Status: Being Held
Cause: Lightning
Size: 0.009 hectares

Heikos Creek Fire – Discovered September 9
Status: Under Control
Cause: Under investigation (lightning suspected)
Size: 0.1 hectares

Silver Basin Wildfire (south of Bugaboos Provincial Park) — Incident N21687
• Estimated 40 hectares, lightning-caused start Aug. 28
• Being HEld
• Evacuation Alert recinded.
• Area Restriction remains in effect; check the official bulletin and map for the latest boundaries.
• Terrain is difficult/inaccessible.

With todays rain, burning conditions are in decline however, it is possible that we will still see new starts in the coming days from possible lightning moving through the region.
