Ponies & Planks Skijoring Fundraiser returns this weekend, and if you attend only one winter event in Fernie, make it this one.
This is the day when ski edges meet horsepower, when costumes matter almost as much as speed, and when the entire community gathers outdoors to celebrate winter the Fernie way. It is competitive. It is chaotic in the best way. And it is all in support of Freedom Equine Association and youth therapeutic riding in the Elk Valley.
At its core, Ponies & Planks Skijoring Fundraiser is about showing up. Showing up to cheer for the teams charging down the course. Showing up in costume. Showing up to support a local cause that directly benefits young people in our community.
Expect fast, competitive runs across divisions, crowd favourites like True Love on a Skijor Course, the always-creative Best Dressed Crowd and Team Fashion Awards, and a high-energy finish with medals, cheers and closing celebrations to wrap the day.

11 AM – Gates Open
11:30 AM – Competition Begins – First run for every team
1:30 PM to 2:00 PM – True Love on a Skijor Course and Best Dressed Crowd and Team Fashion Awards
2:15 PM – First Run of B Division
3:15 PM – First Run of A Division
4:15 PM – Awards, Medals, Thanks, Congrats and Closing
7:00 PM – After Party at The Fernie Taphouse – Live Music, 10 dollar cover, prizes and giveaways
Race time results will be available to follow along in real time.
While the focus is firmly on Saturday’s main event, the weekend energy starts with a pre-party at The Fernie Taphouse and continues there after the final medals are handed out. The pre-party sets the tone. The after-party keeps the stories and celebration going.
Ponies & Planks Skijoring Fundraiser is more than a spectacle. It is one of the few events that truly pulls Fernie together in the heart of winter.
