A new fire hall is in the works for the community of Hosmer.

“I recognize the critical role the fire department plays for Hosmer and the surrounding areas in supporting our residents,” says RDEK Electoral Area A Director Mike Sosnowski. “Securing funding for the project has been a key priority for me this year and I’m grateful for the support of the Board in making it happen.”

A total of $4 million dollars in funding has been approved by the RDEK Board of Directors including $2.5 million from the Electoral Area A portion of the Elk Valley Mine Tax Sharing Fund and $1.5 million from the Community Works Fund.

The next step in the process will be to secure land for a new hall that is centrally located in the Hosmer and Dicken Road areas, followed by detailed design and construction.

“This project will ensure our firefighters have a proper facility to operate and train in and will benefit residents and property owners for years to come,” adds Sosnowski. “I’m excited to see it moving ahead and look forward to the ribbon cutting once the new hall is built.”
