The Nature Conservancy of Canada, in partnership with the East Kootenay Invasive Plants Council, is seeking volunteers to help combat the spread of noxious weeds in the Mt. Broadwood area. Join and learn about invasive plants found in the area, how to treat them and how to prevent their spread.
This year’s weed pull will occur in the sensitive riparian area along both sides of Lodgepole Creek. With your help, we can control the spread of Spotted knapweed along Lodgepole Creek. Your participation in this event will help contribute to the stewardship of the Elk Valley Heritage Conservation Area in order to conserve the recreational values we all enjoy.
The pull will take place from 10am to noon, followed by a free BBQ. Carpool meeting place is at the 3 &93 Dairy Bar, Junction Road (Corner of Kootenay and Crowsnest Hwy)
The event is located on Lodgepole Road, 29km marker (Bridge). From Hwy #3, turn off on Morrisey Rd (Morrisey Provincial Park exit). Continue at topast the park and cross the Elk River. Turn right and follow Morrisey Road to the 17km road marker. Continue straight ahead, crossing Morrisey Creek. Continue straight ahead onto Lodgepole Road, crossing over a low pass, to the 25km marker. Take the Left Fork going to the Wigwam River. Stay right on Ram Creek Road. Meet by bridge at 29km marker. Below is a map of directions to the location:
