Saturday’s Game
The Ghostriders play the first place Golden Rockets Saturday in part two of a home and home that will start in Golden Friday night. The Ghostriders will only host Golden one more time this year and that will be February 6th. Last week Golden’s two games were at home where they surprised the first place Nelson Leafs with a 4-3 win, then they surprised last place Dynamiters Tuesday by losing 7-1 to them. The Rockets had folded a couple of years ago but a group from the community brought the team back to life and they seem to be doing very well. The revitalized Rockets had 456 fans at the Leaf game…AND… when this was written they were in first place with 41 points.
Odds and ends.
Brad Sykes was traded to the Chase Chiefs December 1st and will play this weekend….Sykes plays in Fernie again January 9th. ….AP Paul Rosler scored his first goal as a Ghostrider against Invermere Nov. 20…Jimmy Carter and Dave McIvor each scored shorthanded goals last week… 315 fans saw the Riders in Creston, 627 saw Nelson in Fernie last weekend….We can’t thank the fans enough for their support…Karl Weberg -top photo-was chosen as the Ghostriders Player of the Month for October by the Fernie Free Press… The team thanks the Free Press for their support….The Weberg Watch continues, Karl had a goal and an assist in Creston last week…. as did Scott Traverse vs Nelson… New forward Jimmy Carter continues to impress and has 7 points in 4 games….Matt MacDonald -bottom photo-continues to recover from his injury but we had no date for his return when this was written…The Ghostriders have not played their mortal enemies the Kimberley Dynamiters even once this year…. that will change Friday December 12 when the Nitros finally show their ugly faces here in Fernie for part one of a home and home that sees the Riders go to Kimberley Saturday the 13th …When this was written the last place Nitros were 9 points behind the Riders in the standings but had 3 games in hand, AND will play the Ghostriders 8 times before the end of the regular season. This is gonna be great-see you at the rink…
