Fernie is going to be Fernie in the next feature film being shot here, starting Sept. 4. In the past two feature films shot in Fernie, Hot Tub Time Machine and Santa’s Pups, the town was renamed as another.
“This is a great marketing opportunity for Fernie as Fernie is being portrayed as Fernie – an authentic ski town. Fernie will not be renamed for the film,” announced the Fernie Chamber of Commerce earlier this week.
Filming will commence September 4 and the production crew will be on location until Sept. 14. Production manager Laurie Maxwell has agreed to a meeting for the business community in advance of the start of filming, the chamber reported.
The following is a brief plot summary of the film.
Adam works as a junior executive for a large Toronto law firm. When a business trip takes him out to Fernie, he decides to reunite with his old college friends, Jason and Theo. When he arrives, he finds out that due to a series of terrible business decisions, Theo’s ski waxing business in Fernie is in serious financial trouble and at risk of being taken over by an evil developer.
The three guys hatch a plan to throw a massive fundraising party to try and save the business. But things don’t go as smoothly as they’d hoped. The developer and his son pull out all the stops to prevent the party from happening so that they can foreclose on the prime piece of real estate that the ski wax shop is located on. The boys face all kinds of challenges, including a Kokanee stealing Sasquatch, party permit hassles, sabotage by the developer, and a company party on the same night, headlined by the 1990s rap sensation, Snow. Eventually, all the planets align and our guys get the beer, Adam hooks up with his old college crush, and the party is a huge success, saving the waxing business.
Stay tuned for opportunities as these films always present lots of short term work!
