Fernie Snow Conditions

Fernie Snow Conditions stacked up with 72cms in the Lizard Range this week, and Fernie’s winter has officially found its rhythm. After a hesitant start across much of Western Canada, a sustained run of storms has transformed conditions on the mountain and delivered exactly what skiers and riders were hoping for heading into the holidays.

More than 70 cm of snow has fallen this week, snow is falling again today, and additional snowfall is forecast through the Christmas period. At Fernie Alpine Resort, the snowpack has climbed to a 146 cm base, with 354 cm of total snowfall recorded so far this season.

The impact on skiing has been immediate and noticeable. Fresh snow has softened upper-mountain terrain, filled in earlier thin spots, and added depth and confidence across steeper lines. Alpine bowls are skiing particularly well, with wind helping redistribute snow into leeward zones and build coverage where it counts.

Recent winds have produced pockets of wind slab in the alpine, highlighting ongoing sensitivity in wind-affected terrain and reinforcing the need for continued caution as the snowpack continues to build.

It’s still early season, and lower elevations remain variable, but the overall feel on the mountain has shifted decisively. Colder temperatures have allowed snow to fall at lower elevations, helping the pack settle and strengthen with each passing storm.

Looking ahead, a series of smaller but steady systems is expected to continue delivering snow through the holidays. This may not be a single headline dump, but it’s the kind of consistent snowfall that sets Fernie up beautifully for Christmas turns and a strong mid-winter foundation.

The takeaway is simple: the snowpack is deepening, conditions are improving by the day, and winter in Fernie is very much back on track.
