The Fernie Ski Wall of Fame additions are now installed at the Cornerstone Lodge at Fernie Alpine Resort, marking the official public display of the 2025 honourees.
Fernie Skiing Heritage announced five new inductees this year, recognizing individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to Fernie’s snowsports culture. The Wall of Fame honours Pioneers, Builders, and Sport Leaders who have helped shape Fernie’s skiing legacy.
Katie Anderson – Sport Leader
Katie Anderson began skiing at age two at Fernie Alpine Resort and transitioned into snowboarding at age six. She competed in snowboard cross with the BC Snowboard Team and later the Canadian National Team, winning Canadian Championships in 2015. After moving into freeride, she qualified for the Freeride World Tour, earning Rookie of the Year in 2021 and capturing the Freeride World Championship title in 2023. She remains active as an instructor and coach.
Fernie Nordic Society – Pioneer
Founded in 2006, the Fernie Nordic Society was established to promote Nordic skiing and active lifestyles in the Elk Valley. Starting with grooming on the Fernie Golf Course, the organization has grown to support over 1,000 members and operates the Elk Valley Nordic Centre. The Society delivers youth and adult programming, hosts competitions, and continues to expand trail infrastructure.
Dr. Rod Geddis – Builder
Dr. Rod Geddis arrived in Fernie in 1979 to practice medicine and became deeply involved in the ski community. Over more than three decades, he volunteered with the Fernie Alpine Ski Team as a director and president, provided medical support at major events, and served as a race official and BC Alpine Technical Delegate. He also contributed to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic alpine events.
Rod Timm – Sport Leader
Rod Timm has played a central role in developing Fernie’s alpine ski racing program. After beginning his coaching career in Alberta, he moved to Fernie in 1988 and later returned to lead the Fernie Alpine Ski Team. Under his leadership, the program grew significantly and produced athletes who advanced to provincial, national, NCAA, and Olympic levels.
Tyler Werry – Sport Leader
Tyler Werry progressed through Fernie’s ski programs to compete at the highest levels of alpine racing. As a member of the BC and Canadian National Ski Teams, he won NorAm Super G and Downhill titles and competed on the World Cup circuit. Following his racing career, he coached with the Kootenay Ski Team and was named BC FIS Coach of the Year in 2019.
The installation of the 2025 class at Cornerstone Lodge adds another chapter to Fernie’s skiing history, recognizing contributions across competition, coaching, and long-term community involvement.
Fernie Skiing Heritage also extended thanks to those who supported the Wall of Fame installation, including Lorreta and Ryley Johnson of Kootenay Signs, Char Hornquist of Fernie Printing, Karen and Kim Oakden, Tara Higgins of HH Gallery, and Andy Cohen of Resorts of the Canadian Rockies.
