Fernie’s popular local coffee shop Freshies has moved to a fresh location in the downtown less that one block for the original setting. For you coffee junkies, lunch crowd or just looking to be seen, Freshies has moved to 632 Victoria (2nd) Avenue, across from Carosella and beside Island Lake offices.

Their relocation was going to cause such java stress for the Giv’er boys and girls that they also relocated to remain just two doors away, a 5 second hop!

Six years ago Freshies was born as Fernie’s local coffee and lunch hangout offering fresh baked goods, great sandwiches and killer soups. Did I mention BC’s own Cowboy coffee! The 2nd & 3rd generation Stokie family offshoots Liz and Kim, mother and daughter, have been growing Fernie’s coffee scene ever since.

The new location captures the warmth and charm of the owners in an improved setting with more intimacy that before. The girls designed the layout to function and leveraged their husbands Ian and Dave to do the work. They in-turn brought in their support, even Grampa Tom and brother-in-law Jurgen were summoned to work, and it all came together quickly.

Push came to shove and long days emerged, but after about one month the new Freshies opened today. Here are some pics that describe what has been happening up to and including opening day! Click on a picture to view in a larger format.
