1) Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research
Council received a letter of request form Ms. Jennifer Parker this year’s organizer for the Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research, and agreed to offer any in-kind support for the event that can be reasonably provided. The run is to be held Sunday, September 9th date to be announced soon.

2) RCMP – South East District Headquarters
re: Fernie RCMP Detachment
Council has made a request with the Ministry of Justice to meet with an “E” Division representative at the upcoming UBCM Conference to discuss cell retrofit for the Fernie detachment as the existing cells have been decommissioned, as well a time line for the Rural Policing Study
3) 5th Street and Highway #3 Intersection
Council for the City of Fernie have contacted the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure requesting the Ministry to remove the pedestrian crosswalk paint and the crossing signage at the intersection of Highway #3 and 5th Street.
This transportation corridor is a very busy stretch of highway and there have been several witnessed incidents with both vehicles and pedestrians at this intersection.
Council would like to direct the pedestrian traffic to use the signal controlled crossings at 4th Street and 7th Street to ensure the safety of our citizens and visitors alike.
4) Development Process – Task Force
Council will investigate the creation of a task force to look into the impediments, barriers and opportunities for development in Fernie as well recommend process improvements resulting from its findings.
5) Issues with Skunks in Fernie
Council allocated a budget of $1500 dollars for contracted services to deal with skunk complaints on private property, subject to confirmation of the City’s lawful authority to do so.
