Fernie athletes are once again carrying the valley’s name onto the world stage, with two skiers from the Fernie Nordic Society helping headline a strong c contingent bound for Norway this March.
Nine athletes from across British Columbia have qualified for the FIS Nordic Junior and U23 World Ski Championships, taking place March 3–8, 2026, in Lillehammer. Even more impressive: those nine athletes represent seven different BC clubs, a clear snapshot of the depth and reach of Nordic skiing development across the province.
For Fernie, the spotlight lands squarely on Ella Fuller and Louison Dubief, both racing in the Junior Women’s category and both proud products of the Fernie Nordic Society. Their selection reflects years of community coaching, volunteer-driven programming, and a local culture that treats winter as a season to be explored, not endured.

Lillehammer isn’t just another race stop. It’s one of the most storied Nordic venues in the world, synonymous with Olympic history and high-performance skiing. For these athletes, it’s a chance to measure themselves against the best junior and U23 racers on the planet—and for communities like Fernie, it’s proof that small-town trail systems can feed directly into international sport.
As these skiers line up in Norway, they’ll be carrying more than race bibs. They’ll be carrying the work of volunteer coaches, groomers, parents, and clubs across BC—and, for Fernie fans, a familiar reminder that world-class athletes can grow up skiing right here at home.
