That elusive and much-sought after Spring sensation is hitting Fernie in a big way.
“Spring Fever” in Fernie means one thing in this Canadian Rockies paradise – fantastic Spring skiing and awesome events. The conditions right now are prime for warm and breezy mountain runs and après-ski in the sun. Fernie is a great destination for that Spring escape, with the largest base in the Canadian Rockies.
In addition, many of Fernie’s accommodators, retailers, and service providers are offering fantastic Spring specials.
March 13 and 14 the action gets underway with the RCR Big Air Ski and the Big Air Snowboard. Competitors from across BC and Alberta will be flying high all weekend as they compete in what has become a Fernie tradition.
The weekend of March 19-21will see Fernie Alpine Resort host the 2nd annual Fernie Freeskiing Competition. Freeskiers from all over North America, will flock to Fernie to check out the renown mountain terrain, and sample some legendary small-town hospitality at the same time.
Ski Canada lands in Fernie for their annual ski test March 20 through 26. As Fernie welcomes the magazine, look for special events all over town as local watering holes and restaurants pull out all the stops to show this crack team of journalists and athletes just what Fernie has to offer.
On April 3, FAR hosts Snow Jam, an outdoor festival featuring music and an array of fun on-snow activities.
Things will no doubt reach a Fever pitch with the thrills, spills and chills of the last big event of the ski season (and a definite sign of Spring) the Powder, Pedal, Paddle. Teams from 1-5 join in a fun, action-filled relay as they ski, bike, boat and run through this annual event. The competition is held annually, and this year’s event is set for April 17. Closing day follows on April 20.
