The 2025 Canadian Wakesurf & Foiling Nationals brought an epic weekend of riding to Lake Koocanusa September 6–7, as more than 70 athletes from across the country competed for national titles. Hosted at Koocanusa Village and presented by SWS Marine Group, the event showcased the sport’s rapid growth, highlighted by the debut of a foiling division.

“We were excited to welcome over 70 riders from as far west as Vancouver Island and as far east as Ontario competing over two days,” said event organizer Loree Duczek. “New this year was the addition of a foiling division, and with bigger divisions and more athletes taking part, it is so good to see this event continuing to grow.”

Fernie and East Kootenay riders delivered strong performances, with several landing on the podium.

Junior Boys Division: Cranbrook’s Boston Rousselle earned bronze, with Victoria’s Benson Hennessy and Foothills’ Casen Taylor taking gold and silver.

Amateur Divisions: Golden siblings Edward and Amaya Anderson both medaled—Edward capturing gold in Amateur Male Skim, while Amaya powered through qualifiers to claim silver in Amateur Female Skim.

Master’s Male Skim: Baynes Lake’s Jason Williamson took silver behind Chestermere’s Rob Ulrich.

Outlaw Female Skim: Fernie’s Olivia Sombrowski moved up to the competitive Outlaw class, earning bronze.

Pro Women’s Skim: Fernie’s Caroline Villeneuve, one of the world’s most decorated wakesurfers, added another national medal to her collection with bronze.

Pro Men’s Division: Cranbrook’s Dagen Duczek defended his Canadian title, edging out his brother Ryder for gold. Longtime mentor Isaac Hockley rounded out the podium with bronze, and thrilled crowds in the foil division alongside Kelowna’s Jake Lamb with big airs and attempted flips.

“One of the special things about this event is the way it brings families and the surf community together,” added Duczek. “From siblings in the same division, to siblings in different divisions and entire families competing, it speaks to the family nature of this sport. Beyond that, we had fans on shore and on the water cheering riders on, an amazing live performance from Lord Knows Band, giveaways, demo rides and all kinds of fun that added to the stoke of the weekend.”

The 2025 Canadian Wakesurf & Foiling Nationals capped off this year’s competitive season in spectacular style, thanks to the support of sponsors, athletes, and fans.
