City of Fernie

Starting in Spring 2025, the City of Fernie will introduce Cloudpermit, an online permit-tracking software designed to streamline the building and development permit process. This new tool aims to simplify applications for builders, developers, businesses, and residents by providing a fully digital platform accessible at any time.

Cloudpermit is a cloud-based platform designed to streamline community development processes for local governments and agencies. It offers a suite of tools for managing permitting, licensing, planning, zoning, code enforcement, and inspections, all accessible online 24/7.

Cloudpermit will allow users to submit permit applications and inspection requests conveniently from their homes. The platform promises faster processing and enhanced communication between applicants and the City, aiming to create a more efficient experience for all involved.

For years, Fernie residents and builders have expressed frustration with delays in the permit processing system, often waiting weeks—or even months—for approvals. The introduction of Cloudpermit marks a significant step forward, promising to make long waits and processing backlogs a thing of the past. With faster online submissions, clearer tracking, and 24/7 accessibility, the city aims to reduce these delays, creating a more reliable and responsive experience for all stakeholders.

The implementation of Cloudpermit will begin shortly, with the platform expected to be operational by spring of next year. In the lead-up to the launch, the City of Fernie will offer information sessions and learning resources to ensure a smooth transition and help users make the most of this new system.
