The City of Fernie 2025 Annual Municipal Report is now available for public review and comment, offering residents a detailed look at municipal progress, current priorities, financial reporting, and plans for the years ahead.
The annual report is an important accountability document for local governments. It outlines the City’s goals and objectives, reviews progress made over the past year, and provides information on municipal services, operations, performance measures, grants, property tax exemptions, and audited financial statements.
The 2025 report highlights a busy year for the City, including record development and building permit activity, continued work on the Fire Hall Replacement Project, progress toward long-term wastewater compliance, flood protection improvements, expanded public engagement, and continued planning for housing, childcare, recreation, infrastructure, and accessibility.
Key items noted in the report include:
• 186 building permit applications received in 2025
• 92 building permits issued, with construction value exceeding $60 million
• Continued work on the Official Community Plan update
• Advancement of the new Fire Hall Replacement Project
• Wastewater compliance planning and infrastructure upgrades
• $22 million in major grant applications submitted for critical infrastructure
• More than 20,000 drop-ins at the Fernie Aquatic Centre
• 1,504 businesses licensed, including 141 new businesses
• 58 community events held within the City
• Resort Municipality Initiative funding supporting events, trails, tourism infrastructure, and community programming
Looking ahead to 2026 and 2027, the report identifies continued focus on critical infrastructure, including the new fire hall, wastewater compliance, drinking water upgrades, watermain replacement, housing diversity, accessibility improvements, asset management, digital permitting, and public engagement.

Feedback can also be provided in person or via Zoom when the Annual Report is presented at the City’s Annual General Meeting on June 23, 2026, at 6:30pm.
Comments will be accepted until the close of the Annual General Meeting.
