Fernie’s Ghostriders Jr. B hockey team remain the best entertainment in town. With a winning history and reputation as one of the leagues best franchises the Riders play a highly intense and skilled game of hockey. With a young team this season Fernie is building for the future. Here is the latest update from the team scribe:
The Ghostriders lost two games in a row in overtime but the story for the Riders was their special teams play. In Invermere the Riders lost 3-2 and went 0-9 on the power play and despite outshooting the Rockies 41-23 they just couldn’t get a difference making power play goal. The penalty kill wasn’t great either and the Rockies scored two power play goals, they were the difference. Dylan Robertson and Josh Teves scored the Riders goals. New Rockies forward Matt Houston scored 2 goals but was kicked out for spitting, how nice, but in his defence maybe where he comes from that’s how they do their wet t-shirt contests.
The Kimberley game was a 4-3 overtime loss for the Riders and all the Nitro goals were on the power play. After the gong show in the game before the referee called every little thing and the Ghostriders lost the special teams game to Kimberley who hasn’t been especially good on special teams either, but they managed four power play goals. Josh Teves, Aaron Neufeld and Aidan Geiger scored the Rider goals.
The Ghostriders can play with most teams five on five and if they can get their power play going they should easily win most of the games against the Kimberley’s and Invermere’s of the world and could challenge Creston for first place in the division.
A few notes. The Ghostriders played without Cole Weber patrolling the blueline and they missed his presence. Cole Keebler with 19 points in 16 games was also out. Jake MacLachlan had 2 points in his first three games back with the Riders and looks right at home. Josh Teves has been the Riders best defenseman the last few games and is leading the D in scoring. Aidan Geiger scored the nicest goal against Kimberley and is starting to pick up points again after a bit of a drought. He is chasing Aaron Neufeld for the Rider scoring lead. Travis Thomsen is becoming a bit of a favourite with his hits, and his no wrestling fight a couple of weeks ago didn`t hurt his image either.
Be sure to support the Riders this year!
