Powder Days

As March winds down, winter isn’t quite ready to say goodbye and is delivering a few more powder days. A series of active storm systems are lining up to deliver fresh snowfall across British Columbia — and the Kootenays are right in the path.

According to forecasts, multiple storm fronts will push into the region in the final days of the month, bringing fresh powder to the mountains and valleys alike. For Fernie and the Elk Valley, this means localized snow events, some of which could bring significant accumulations — especially in higher elevations and alpine zones.

While the storms are expected to track northward, the heaviest snowfall will likely hug the U.S.-Canada border, making Fernie a prime spot for some end-of-season turns. Skiers and boarders can expect variable conditions with fresh snow falling on a well-established base.

We do need the snow as we’re tracking well below average this season to date.

Powder Days

These late-season powder days are a welcome bonus for locals and visitors alike, as the mountains get one last refresh before spring officially takes hold. Storm timing and totals may vary, so it’s a good idea to keep an eye on local forecasts and avalanche bulletins if you’re planning to head into the backcountry.

Whether you’re chasing lift-served laps at Fernie Alpine Resort or earning your turns in the backcountry, the weekend will offer some powder!
