On Monday, June 1, the City of Fernie will be starting the next phase of re-opening outdoor amenities that have been closed due to the COVID-19 public health emergency.

This next phase of re-opening is focused on high use and higher risk outdoor amenities and will coincide with the launch of the new Community Ambassador Program.

The following amenities will be re-opening on June 1, 2020:
– Playgrounds at Rotary Park, 10th Ave, and Ridgemont Park
– Skate Park
– Fernie Bike Park
– Downtown and Rotary Park Washrooms (Open 8am to 8pm daily)
– All Pit Toilets at Parks and Trailheads
– Sani-Dump
– School District 5 Fields
– School District 5 Basketball Court

As part of a regional strategy, Community Ambassadors have been hired to help encourage physical distancing and general safety guidelines, while promoting the safe use and enjoyment of our amenities. You will see our Ambassadors around re-opened outdoor facilities reminding the public of how to safely recreate in these spaces.

As with the initial stage of the coordinated restart initiative that began May 15, we are relying on the community to exercise personal responsibility as they use these amenities. We will be maintaining our existing cleaning and disinfecting routine. The success of our re-opening requires us to all work together to ensure a safe experience for everyone.

Please continue to keep the following guidelines in mind as you return to recreating in shared spaces:
– Maintain your distance
– Keep your circle small to protect those closest to you
– No league or organized play
– Respect signage and facility closures
– Stay home if you are sick
– Wash your hands regularly
