The first Enemy Lines at at Fernie Alpine Resort was won by Stan Ray of Whistler BC and Fernie local Luke Nelson was a very close second. Stan was the first skier to cross the finish line in the Chinese Downhill. The race was held on a compromised course, in less than ideal conditions.

As a result of a BC wide warming trend that produced poor visibility and unstable snow conditions, the event was held in a safe zone below the headwall. The prize purse was also revised accordingly and to ensure athletes are rewarded for their efforts to make it out to Fernie. $5000 went to Stan and the remaining $15,000 was split between the field of skiers.

Stan left ski cross last year to take up freeskiing following an impressive debut at Winter X in 2011, where he made the final, finishing 4th. Stan looks forward to next years event.

Monster Energy’s Nelson Philips looks forward to the future of Enemy Lines; “We’re very excited to have a partner, Fernie, that shows the willingness to bring our plans to life. Enemy Lines has a home and we’ll start to work towards next year on Monday.” Monster is chasing the success of the Red Bull brand in an attempt to be all about pushing boundaries.

The other local skiers taking part in this year’s event included Emmet Graham, Ross Janzen, Jamie McDermid, Ryan Oakden, Benjamin Rex Ogilvie, Aaron Schmidt, and Graeme Tabor.
