The Burning Times is a 1990 Canadian documentary that examines the Early Modern European witch trials (roughly 1350–1750, with a peak between 1560 and 1650) from a feminist point of view.
It argues that the witch hunts were a form of gender-based violence and “gynocide” aimed at destroying independent women, traditional healers, midwives, and women who controlled their own reproduction.
The documentary features interviews and commentary from prominent figures including Starhawk, Margot Adler, Matthew Fox, Martha Henry (narrator), and various historians, accompanied by music from Loreena McKennitt.
