Fernie has been celebrating Global Fat Bike Day for several years and we will continue!

The fat biking is primo however, with the pandemic, we’re asking everyone to honour the tradition by getting out and riding your fat-bikes with your bubble!

That’s right, we’re all on our own or with family this year.

Nine years, ago a couple of very clever Brits came up with an idea for a grass-roots – worldwide – fat-bike holiday, that would bring the fat-bike community together, like nothing we’ve ever seen before or since! December 5th is the date of this year’s – GLOBAL FAT-BIKE DAY!

GFBD belongs to everyone that has a fat-bike and wants to celebrate! Every year, someone reminds us that some people have to work on Saturday, so If that applies to you, feel free to hold your ride on Sunday, if that works better.

This year’s celebrations will have to cope with regional Covid 19 regulations. GFBD has always had a virtual aspect to the way that we’ve historically celebrated by sharing photos of our rides through the internet. Over the years, the trend was to get together in large numbers, but there were always folks that celebrated in smaller groups.

This year, social distancing and face coverings might be part of the way that folks choose to celebrate. The last thing that any of us want is to be part of spreading the virus and getting people sick – it’s a no brainer. Our hope is that we can all find a safe way to celebrate while exercising personal responsibility and common sense.
