You should expect to be paying $400,000 + in that area. That’s just a figure off the top of my head. A 600 sq/f house in town is ranging in the $160,000 range.

The price you got might be to build a home, without the purchase of land.

I hate to say it but Telus is a local phone and ADSL internet supplier.

    http://www.telus.com

Shaw Cable also has high speed internet and digital and cable TV.

Other options for phone is cell phone carriers. Don’t have a cell but I remember a thread on here about it.

Pacific Coastal Airlines fly to and from Vancouver at a one way price of $109 if you book 4 days in advance. Bus it fron Cranbrook or bag your friends again for a lift again.

There is no development. Just bureaucracy. Who is going to work on this new development with the bad blood of the Riverside development. No trade-worker in there right mind would take this on, unless they got paid 100% upfront. Ing might as well bring it from Calgary to.

    Cash or Credit.

I don’t think there is lack of interest. Its the track record of the developer. I can’t see it being reliant on Calgary rubber tire traffic either. As in the case of Pinnacle Ridge we are seeing more international owners than ever before. And fly fishing being only a percentage of what brings people to Fernie. Skiing, hiking, biking, wildlife, hunting, snowshoeing, xc-skiing etc.

They probably won’t be small houses either. Larger family homes, 3-4 bedroom size.

    Try this out:

I would guess it will be pretty hard to track down the original house. Fernie has changed in the last 100 years. You might also want to purchase the new histoical walking tour booklet. It has a lot of early 20th century photos in it.

    Good Luck.

There is no problem with responsible renters it is the ones that don’t respect the other people living in the same house. Or just don’t respect the house. Renters are a crap shoot. You will never know how they will turn out. I have rented my whole life until buying my first home and I tell you I was a good renter from home maintenance to landscaping we did it all without having owned the home.

I also don’t rent to pay my mortgage, I use it as rental income, this is the same case with our friends.

So why feel offended if you are one of the good ones? There are alot of seasonal dirt bags out there that steal and cheat there way though life. And the better they are at stealing and cheating the better they disguise themselves to be responsible renters. 8)

I don’t have a fireplace and its just my opinion so generalizing that ‘locals’ slag Island Lake is your own triteness.

Anyway it has dumped over 150cms in the past 2 weeks. The Lake is closed for business.

It pretty much is a private ski club as is. Pay the big bucks to play. Has been out priced for most middle class skiers. Its doctors and lawyers, dentists, the New Yorkers, politicians. Pretty lame, but money talks. There used to be some pretty cool shareholders at one time but each dropped out.

The new owners one being owner of Mica and had original ownership with Island Lake. The other a young american with a load of cash, however seems to be down to earth. He’s the money muscle.

I have heard alot of rumors of what may happen. For the near future it will run as a cat skiing operation. Expansion will happen but no one really knows what. The new owners haven’t even taken over yet. It would be nice to see if they could take the Lake back 5-6 years when it was a awesome place to be. But that is just wishing.

    To move to another topic:

I see more species of animals on Island Lake property than anywhere else around Fernie. Bear, cougar, elk, moose. This shouldn’t make sense with Island Lake being an old growth cedar forest should it? It gets more rubber tire traffic then the mountain bikers riding Hedonism – Dem Bones.

I don’t have an issue with hunting I think it is controlled and limited properly. And the level of education among hunters is at its highest I have even seen. I get this talking to my uncles in Alberta that hunt deer. My problem is you can do all the conservation but it comes down to using a gun to shoot the same animal you are trying to conserve.

Yeah so. I am not going to deny that my lifestyle is pro opinionated to my environmental concerns. So yeah other peoples opinions can be funny like yours.

And I really really think logging has much more environment impact than a trail. Per km there are more logging roads then trail in the elk valley. So why would a single track trail be less environmentally friendly than logging roads that are used by combustable engines, 1 tons, machinery, tractor trailers etc. Not to mention the waste, inefficiencies and destruction that is involved in logging versus a trail that gets maybe a season and half use. I just don’t see your argument.

People did bitch about Ghost Rider Crossing and Riverside. How could you develop anything in Fernie without an opposition. Take Timber chair for example that was a secret backcountry spot for people to ski, develop a high-speed quad for access and all is gone. And that is skiers opposing skiable terrain.

And its more like 1 of 75 trails.

Maybe our Elk will evolve into Banff Elk and charge at unsuspecting tourists. Only that this is not a National park and people will shot the shit out of them.

    and

Mountain bike trails are not more of a environmental concern then logging. And if you do think that you are:

a: employed by the forest industry and brainwash yourself into thinking you are doing good for the enviroment so you can wake up every morning and go to work

    b: all of the above

Pine beetles fly right? So why would logging be proactive? It seems like a battle against nature that can’t be won by the logging industry.
