Why do we "NEED" the albertans/australians/non locals to survive, Fernie has been around for 100 + years before the non locals came. The people who break their backs have got Fernie through floods, fires etc.On my street there is 5 empty houses owned by non locals and I have seen the owners come and empty their SUV of groceries and supplies that they bought in Alberta and they drive and act like they are still in Calgary/Edmonton etc. There is another 3 houses that are rented out and the renters get has many as they can in the house so they can afford it .Then they have parties keeping the person awake that has to get up @5am to go to work at the mine/mill /bush etc .These renters cause damage to the houses by snowboarding off of the roof/deck/shed , they leave stuff all over the lawns ,damage carpet and walls then the owners put the rent up more to cover for damages. Now young people that are 3,4,5 generation Ferniette can’t afford to rent or buy a house here.Which results in less families living here and 2 elementary schools closing. To me Fernie is way better once the ski hill closes
