NEW IN TOWN? READ THE FINE PRINT FIRST!
$500 reward offered! Black and Silver 7 x 10 Cargo Mate brand cargo trailer was stolen from in front of my home on Canyon Trail in Fernie BC , late Thursday night or early Friday morning. All calls and tips will remain anonymous. call Fernie RCMP.
******UPDATE******
Trailer found – CITY OF FERNIE DECIDED IT PRUDENT, REASONABLE AND HUMANLY DECENT, WITHOUT ANY NOTICE OF ANY FORM PRIOR TO OR AFTER THE FACT, TO BACK UP, HOOK ON AND DRIVE AWAY EARLY FRIDAY MORNING AND LOCK IT UP IN THEIR IMPOUND YARD FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON AT THIS POINT. WHOM EVER MADE THIS CALL IN THIS SPECIFIC AND UNREASONABLE FASHION IS OUT OF CONTROL OR ENTITLED TO BEHAVE IN SUCH DRACONIAN WAYS DUE TO ANTIQUATED AND UNREASONABLE BYLAWS CURRENTLY IN PLACE POSSIBLY. THANKS TO AN ANONYMOUS CALLER, ONLY THEN WAS I ABLE TO LOCATE MY PROPERTY WHICH HAPPENED TO BE PARKED IN A NORMAL FASHION IN THE FRONT OF MY HOME. SOMEONE IN THE CITY NEEDS A BIT OF A TUNING. IN MY WORLD OF NORMAL HUMAN BEINGS, WE DONT TREAT OTHER PEOPLE LIKE THIS. IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM, SOMEONE SHOULD HAVE KNOCKED ON MY FRONT DOOR OR LEFT A NOTICE BEFORE OR AFTER THE FACT. ITS CALLED HUMAN DECENCY.
******* Second Update *******
I went and paid the $150 impound and tow fee to pick up my trailer. I arrived at the impound yard to find that whom ever backed up and hooked on to my trailer didn’t know a damn thing about using a normal modern trailer jack and didn’t bother to lower the front jack leg once it was on the ball hitch. They decided to drive away with the leg in the DOWN position and completely snapped the steel leg backwards and broke the entire jacking mechanism so it won’t raise up or down. I was forced to leave the trailer in the impound yard because its now completely unsafe to drive with and the jack needs entirely replaced after these monkeys got their hands on it. Talk about adding insult to injury. There should be a mandatory IQ test required before being allowed to work with the city of Fernie in any capacity on both the white and blue collar side of things. One Neanderthal fail on top of another!
*****Third Update****
I went to see the Fire Chief, Ted Ruiter, who overseas the bylaw officers who enforce the towns bylaws. Apparently , being new to town has it disadvantages in this particular case where ZERO NOTICE or WARNING is provided or given where a vehicle or trailer is parked on a street where snow plowing is to take place. This is LOGICALLY A HUGE HOLE in the city of Fernie snow plow bylaw. I don’t remember receiving a WELCOME to Fernie information packet that warns of personal property being basically stolen off the streets and subsequently damaged or destroyed in the process. HUGE FAIL HERE FERNIE OFFICIALS!! As the RCMP stated in a follow up phone call to me, “Theres clearly some room for needed discussion and amendments to the current bylaw and enforcement here”.Thank goodness, The City has a few excellent civil Servants such as Ted Ruiter, Fire Chief, who was willing to listen to an extremely and justifiably frustrated citizen, and stepped up to the plate. He very rapidly, addressed the individual who destroyed my trailer jack. A confession was given and the jack was completely replaced. Thank you Ted for making right on this matter. Someone I can now respect.
As to the city councillors who have the ability to create change within the bylaw enforcement side of things, Might I suggest an equally speedy change IN THE WAY, enforcement action is taken upon those who are parked on streets that are to be snow plowed. In my case, me being a new citizen to the town and not knowing that theres a bylaw in place, or that I had done anything wrong, and then simply showing up and swiping my trailer in the wee hours of the morning, invoking an RCMP investigation and social media frenzy, without ANY warning or notice prior to or after the fact is frankly an embarrassing indictment and a reflection of a type of caveman intolerance or bull in a china shop type mentality within a town that has been referred to as being “One of the Coolest towns in North America”, which it truly is!… This however was …. NOT COOL! Its time to bring things up to a 21st century standard and expectation.

Sorry to read about your experience and best of luck on a quick resolution.
Unfortunately the damage was most likely an intentional act of perceived retribution.

Third update added… This is much bigger than just my one isolated incident… change needs to occur either at a PRE enforcement level to ensure proper communication is in order (due diligence) or in the seats that are occupied by city councillors who are charged with representing the people that they serve.
