It’s too bad that groups of thugs continue to disgrace the reputation of Fernie by cruising it’s streets and isolating people to beat-up.
Is anyone willing to guess how long it will take before this kind of behaviour makes it to blogs and other electronic media?
Bad reputations are easy to acquire, and very costly and difficult to lose.

I know it’s not.
Most of us are happy to have you in our area. and will welcome you with open arms.
Sorry to hear that some locals don’t understand the economic impact of visitors such as yourself.I’ve been in favor of the local rubber ro9 for the Anti Tourist population for quite a while.

I’d love to hear what the Town Council and Police Dept. have in mind to keep these incidents at a minimum and to keep this brushfire under control.
Visitors and townsfolk deserve better than this.

Herb
nobody here knows what the heck you are going on about, if you and your buddies got beat up while you were down here or something like that, explain….
but i will remind you that people get beat up in every small (and big) town across this country.. booze, drugs and testoserone are a lethal mix bro…
-

I appreciate your replies guys.
Booze, drugs and testosterone are nothing new to any town.
The vast majority of people can handle all 3 of the mix and still be socialble and good citizens.
The few we are talking about here are bullies. No excuses needed.

Hey Herb, I dont know what the situation was because you didnt elaborate but theres always two side to every story. So if you got beaten up by locals were you all innocent or were stirring the pot? which im guessing you did. Or the guys that beat you up or whatever happened, how do you know they are locals. Locals are Fernie BC, you guys just stay for the winter so im pretty sure if you start anything on “our” turf you will get taught a lesson.

Tell us in detail, cops will do very little and the city councils busy with enough neh saying and complaints.
I own a baseball bat.
I’ve seen the Sopranos a couple times
Lets go make mincemeat out of some people.
Just Kidding. Sheesh.
Ignorant pricks, punks and people are everwhere. Here’s what happened at my house this past friday. Some pre New Years action happened at my house Friday night. Some kid visiting his family in the neigborhood decides to just walk into my house. “Hey hows it goin? My names Paul. Can I use your bathroom?”
My roomates had just returned from the bar and left the door unlocked.
So he uses the bathroom and has a seat on the sectional. Tells us his parents have lived here forever and that he knew the old resident. Bla Bla.
My roomate gets him a drink. My friend visiting happens to know this guy. All’s cool, for about five minutes.
“Can I smoke in your house?” – polite. I can deal with that right?
Then my roomate says “What’re you smokin?” – Honest question. We don’t want people over smoking Crack or Bannana peels right?
“I’ll smoke whatever I want in this place.” The lil punk starts Bippin. “I was in this house before you ever were and I will do what I want when I want.” Show me some respect.” “I’m a local and I’ll get my posse (Like his parents (and he’s white) were straight outta the ghetto) down here to level your house.”
I LOST it.
I told him to show me some fuckin respect more than once, and told him to get out.
My roomate takes away his drink and tries to pursuade him with the Luie.
He’s not leavin, budging or shutting the fuck up.
“I make more money in a day than 3/4 s of the world population” type crap.
So we escort him out the door, physically and I throw him off the front porch. It’s 3:20 in the morning but I’m yelling at him to get off my property.
Then he touched my bosses trucks mirror. BIGGER mistake.
I kicked his ass literally off the driveway and grabbed a four by four post out the back off the truck. I wanted to send the lil idiot home crawlin with a face only a mother could love, but this time of year, and I don’t know this guy right? He could be like 17, and I could be charged with assualt on a minor.
So he goes away and I’m still chatting with a friend in town and my cousin on msn (telling them what this guy did)
About ten mins later he’s on the road in front out of my house threatening to throw a rock through my window.
My roomate is out on the road (dancing around like the Million Dollar Man) And I’m puttin on the steel toes. (It’s like 4 O’clock and I’m pissed).
The kid grabs his cell phone and calls his “Backup” “Possse”
“Shits goin down man get down here to help clean-up” meanwhile he’s running away from my roomates dance routine.
I’m laughing my head off on the porch and my other friends videotaping the whole “Return of the Disrespectfull Punk” Documentary.
His freind comes down the road a few minutes later and then (after hearing what the kid was doing) tells his buddy he’s on his own.
The two kids leave.
Five minutes later ther’es a loud bang on the door. My roomates girlfriend comes out after going to bed when she first got home, goes to to the door right in between her boyfriend, and myself. The lil bastard threw punch and connected with my roomates girlfriend.
The one kid made it to his truck.
The other crawled home with a face only a mother could love.
I get back into the conversations with my friend and cuz, and it was like a bad Seinfeld episode “Who was he?” “Does he Know you?” and I kept replying, “He just walked in.”
Out on the street I can here my roomate saying, “He just walked in!”
I talked with my landlord who lives on the same street and I guess her husband went over and told the young guys parents that if any property gets damaged they will be reponsible for repairs, rent and utilities.
The parents claimed to not know the kids actions (walking into peoples houses without knocking), but say that the kid’s dealing with drug problems. Sure. Give drugs a bad name.
He told his parents he got beat up outside a bar cause he’s from another province.
What a Crock eh?
Anger and Alcohol Attitude and Ignorance.Ps. Knock before you enter. eh?

Too funny!
( Not funny that you had to deal with this crap , but funny the kid begged for a beating and got one!)
Where can we get a clip of the video???
Better yet, post a still picture of his face on this forum so we know that if we ever see the kid , to just avoid any and all communication with him altogether! -

The funniest thing is that while he was refusing to leave and threatening his “Posse” he starts rapping off a bunch of local names.
Now his “posse”s been informed and is now, looking for him.
Some of his “Posse” doesn’t take well to young woman hitting punks bringing up their names to locals who know his friends more than he does.I am not Anti tourist Nor am I pro Local. I just don’t like ignorant lil punks with mouths that try to make fools of their faces.
Violence doesn’t solve any problems, but it let us get to bed before 6am.
Again explain your own situation or event so that we can try and find out where things went wrong herb.
Also if you are coming to our comunity looking for a good time, I’m sure you’ll find it. If your driving araound looking for people to beat up, call me and i’ll give you the address of a few politicians and that lil jerk down the road.

Thanks Canatedian. I have been visiting Fernie both winter and summer for 4 years and have always had a blast.
Came within a crotch-hair of buying property there this summer.
Will be back this season. Fernie’s always done me right.

Glad to here your positive attitude.
But, you started a post, didn’t explain much, asked a couple questions, then you tell us you want to come back, maybe even purchase property.
I’m not looking for Bad news, I’d just like to know what kinda situation you were in.
Where were you?
What happened?
From the looks of your posts it seems you were possibly a random target of a drive by beating. Ive heard of this kind of thing before. Give us some details, maybe we can keep watch out for a certain style of vehicle.
As for media and city attention. Hell Yeah!! if there are people touring around in groups beating people up at random, more reason to cary a camera these days eh.Acts of violence are not tolerated lightly by anyone. Anyone sane that is.

Sorry to hear you got beat up, it happens to the best of em. I hope you’re alright.
I would however ask that you refrain from giving the implication that it happened because you were in Fernie. It didn’t happen because you were in Fernie, it happened because someone or some people wanted to kick your ass. I understand your urge to justify what happened to you and to find a source to put the blame. The people that did it are to blame. They did it because they enjoy doing it. They chose you either because you did something to offend them or you just plain and simple were in the wrong place at the wrong time. If you would like something done about it, it is up to you. The police aren’t going to magically solve all your problems for you, they can however help you bring your attackers to justice. So instead of complaining about the fact that these people were in Fernie, help out the rest of us and use your experience to make this place a little bit safer. -

This isn’t funny, though this is a strangely compelling string.
Herb, if you have a story to tell regarding your bizarre post, please get on with it. Maybe good will come of it. If not, you are anonymous anyway.
Canatedian, you have told a violent story in a funny way, but it is still a violent story.
Two honest questions to gauge life and justice in Fernie:
1) Imagine that a 18 year old local male (family roots trace back 3 generations) tries to show that he is a bad-ass by randomly keying your car. Your friend saw him do it, and informs you. Do you call the RCMP; call his parents; call him to sort out compensation; or, beat him up (alone or with a group).
2) Same question, but the 18 year old is a seasonal tourist from Europe or Australia. In my dicey Toronto neighbourhood, it would be cop first, and there would be no difference whether the was fixed or transient in residence (though I suppose that if I was part of a street gang, the approach would change.)
How is the same situation handled in Fernie?

Some one keyed a car?
Off with their fingers.
Kick the crap out of them and teach them some sence of respect for property. Then call the cops and let them know what you know so that, the criminal can somehow personally pay rather than offset insurance premiums and claim forms etc.
Keep an eye out for him and when you see him in his new car dint it good with a tire iron. LOL
Im JK about the tire iron. bricks are cheaper.
If people touch, take or, cause harm to a person or their property, they should be given a lesson IMO.
Involve the media in the mix. Call the Ombudsman. Call the Queen. I don’t know.“That’s all I have to say about that.” – Forest Gump.

Pretty funny and question answered.
I will be sure to keep on the straight and narrow when I am next in town, since I suspect that the crow bars are specially reserved for upiddy Toronto tourists.
