There is gossip and rumors that
WAL-MART, and other buildings are coming !!!!
I hope so, then we dont have to drive all the way to Cranbrook or Lethbridge, Alberta to do our shoping!

Inside information says that WalMart has decided not to come in to Fernie, although they are entertaining the thought of putting one up outside of town closer to Sparwood. I know that sounds stupid on the outside, but if you put enough thought in to it it makes sense. As for other businesses coming, its kind of inevitable at this point don’t you think? Just sit back and watch it happen.

Why would you want a support walmart? and buy that crap? We have great small businesses in town that provide all the items that a walmart sells. CrappyT is one thing but walmart?! If they build outside the city limits it means that they don’t have to put any money into the community. Don’t you know the owners of walmart are the most wealthy people in the world because they sell crap and pay their employees nothing?????? Support small locally owned business.

I agree, there’s not much you can’t get in Fernie that you actually need…
I can’t believe there’s actually people who live here who want us to end up looking like Cranbrook. I love our little stores and their varied owners. Some are wonderful, helpful and charming. Some are downright obnoxious, but I the point is I know them and they recognize me. I went to check out Canadian Tire on opening weekend, and two teenage boys stood in uniforms right beside me, chatting and laughing, and totally ignored me while I was trying to find something. That would never happen in IGS or Bike Base, or any of the other independant stores. CT may be cheaper on some items but at what cost? I’m a reluctant convenience junkie just like a lot of other people, but we really don’t need this stuff – just takes a little bit of though and you can manage without it.
Please, no more box stores. There is room for one more out on that spot, and then can we please stop trying to turn our beautiful little town into a suburb of Calgary?
