Micky Slim, the cutting edge production hotshot, master of the decks and all round show stopper –. Now with a fully fledged label and numerous residencies behind him (Bomb Squad Records Godskitchen & Mix Club in Paris in case you’re interested), will play his first Filth of 2008 in Manchester on 29th February. Always big with any crowd, Slim’s style covers all bases – house, electro, to a more ghetto underground sound that has been gracing the UK dancefloors over the winter. His music always caters for the party people – aka Filth.

Expect a mix-up of electro, house and jackin music in a formidable Micky Slim style you can’t emanate. As one of the most charismatic individuals to smash his way onto the house music scene in recent years, Micky Slim is the Birmingham-bred bad boy that has arrived and is ready to take over. Over the past year he has produced remixes for Calvin Harris, Toolroom, Cr2 records, Finger Licking, Data and even had his massive summer anthem ‘Jump’ championed by Fatboy Slim.

      _____________EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW:_____________
How did you get your foot in the door of the world of dance music?
-The main thing that started to get me noticed was my residency for Godskitchen. It helped having friends like Nic Fanciulli to help guide the way too :)

Who would you say you look up to in terms of DJs or Producers?
-One of the main producers i aspire to be like is Switch. He has proved time after time his versitility and is now engineering Hip Hop albums, that to me is an achievement. I dont just want to make dance music i want to do all different styles and Switch is leading the way for everybody.

You’re a resident for Godskitchen, how did that come about? And who is the best DJ you have played with at GK?
-I had been making a name for myself on the Midlands club scene and i had known Mark Gillespie a few years when he approached me about being resident for Gods i jumped at the chance.

As well as being a DJ, you produce a lot of your own stuff. How did you get in to producing and what equipment do you use?
-Getting into producing was a natural progression of being a DJ, nowadays you cant just be a DJ you need to bring something else and your own music style is the way to do it. I use Logic8 and Ableton 7 and many different Synths/Plug Ins to achieve my sound.

You have an outstanding production portfolio that speaks for itself, so what’s next for Micky Slim?
-I spent alot of 2007 doing remixes so expect to see alot more original material this year, i have a few collabs coming out too. I have teamed up with Deadmau5 on a recent tour of Canada and Micky Mau5 was born so watch out for that.

You have just relaunch your own record label Bomb Squad records, Tell us abit about that?
-Yes i havent released anything on Bomb Squad for over a year but i have some really good releases lined up strating with my Hit The Club track which is due for release in march.

I hear you have a lot of exciting talent on the label. What tunes and which DJ’s should we look out for?
-Well i have also launched a booking agency alongside the label and i now look after Stupid Fresh who i think will be absolutely massive this year and Escobar & Vito whos mix of Whos the Badman is set to blow up Miami. I am also handling Bass Kleph’s dates for his UK tours, its exciting times.

Your remix of Jump Around has had phenomenal world wide exposure from stations such as Radio 1, what inspired you to remix that tune and what do House of Pain think of it?
-I have always been a massive Hip Hop fan from growing up and that was a major factor in deciding to remix the track. House of Pain were one of my favourite acts and id like to think that they approve of what i did with my mix, they allowed it to be cleared for release so i guess they like it. Miami is fast approaching will you be in attendance and do you have any secret weapons to give out this year? Unfortunately i wont be going, i have a busy DJ diary at the moment and Miami doesnt really fit into it. I have alot of music forthcoming on my label, Bomb Squad Records and will be sending out a Miami sampler for the event.

Which UK nightclub have you not yet played, but would love to?
-Fabric, thats what you call a sound system.

Your playing at the launch of Filth in Manchester at AREA51 what can we expect?
      -Pure FILTH :)

Filth have just won ‘Best Club Night’ in the Galaxy Fm nightlife awards. You have played at a lot of club nights up and down the country, in your opinion what makes the difference between a good club night and a bad one?
-There are alot of different aspects that make a good club night, the sound is for me the most important but thats closely followed by the crowd, in my experience, northern crowds are the best in the UK. They’re always up for a party.

If you could have made a tune, which would it have been and why?
-Earth Wind & Fire – Lets Groove because its my favourite record of all time. I would love to make a track that still sounds amazing 30 years later.

Finally you were in Ibiza a lot of the summer last year playing at Judgement Sundays. What was that like and will you be returning to the white Isle this year?
-It was amazing and yes i will be resident for Judgement again this year!! Roll on the summer :)
"The things about me is that i LOVE to party and i play what i would love to hear on the dancefloor as a punter. Most people Get it, a few dont but your either gonna Fakin LOVE it or you can Fak off and watch some trains you boring tooooooaaaaads :)" Mickey Slim
