Has there ever been a fight to get a locals discount going in Fernie? I’ve lived in 2 other ski hill tourism based towns and both had a locals discount which offered me %15 of at clothing store, and even better deals at restaurants. Im just wondering if its a lost cause here?

Also, I grew up in a small town and Christmas was the best time of year for being in a small town! We had Midnight shopping madness on the same night we lit the town chirstmas tree, with hot chocolate and baked goods, christmas carols and a special santas mailbox right by the huge 40ft christmas tree. The main street was decorated awesome. I know last winter in Sparwood they did the town tree ceremony.. would anyone be interested in getting something like this started in Fernie? I am a local and I have a daughter and I know we will most likely be here for many years to come, and its things like these that children have fun at and remember!

There are initiatives in place in Fernie that are similar to what your discussing. You should contact the Fernie Chamber of Commerce and/or Advocates for Local Living. They have a Christmas program that is launched with a Christmas light up ceremony in the downtown and also includes a shop local component.
