nickParticipantdoes anyone know whether i need a block heater. I have an 94 pontiac bluebird but it has no block heater. Can i get away without one during the winter or am i gonna need to get one installed? Your help is much appreciated.

gumbootgalParticipantI lived in the interior of BC, weather is basically the same. I did get away with a battery warmer for 2 years on a ’90 Chev Sprint ( I bought it on the coast, so no block heater). I just did not drive around much when it was
-30!
It does work, but YES a block heater is the best thing. -

tmrinasParticipantMy wife hasn’t had one for the ten years she has been here. Battery warmer and a good cranking battery will do. And if in doubt by a magnetic block heater.

mikeonabikeParticipantI’ve never had a block heater and everything has worked out fine. Except for that certain New Years Day at Castle mountain about 3 years ago when it was like -40 and a patient hippy dude gave me a boost. Thanks hippy dude!!!

canatedianParticipantA BCAA or CAA or AAA membership is probably less expensive and more useful than a block heater.
