Well, if the ski hill closes, that means that everything other then the mines/mills close… which in turn means that all those 3/4/5 generation ferniette will most likely leave anyways. Who wants to stay in a town where you can’t do all the things you grew up doing? Come on, you know that tourism is a huge part to Fernie’s economy, even if it drives prices up… I am a fourth generation Ferniette and I hope to raise my kids here… I know it’s going to be expensive but thats what you get when you want to live in the best valley in the world… Go to school, get a degree/trade, work hard, pay off your loans, get a good job, and BAM… no more complaining about the prices, because you have the money. There are enough jobs in this valley to support us all, and it’s only going to start growing again.

happy1: One other thing I forgot to mention was that this whole valley is one great community. Fernie, Sparwood, Elkford, Jaffray are all connected and it truly is great to see. If you have kids in high school don’t be surprised if they want to go to sparwood for the weekend or go camping with everyone from all 3 high schools… Thanks to the merger of our minor hockey leagues, highschool kids in all of the valley are now connected and it truly is great to see.
If one town has a tragedy, all the communities get together and support each other. You won’t find that in very many places around the world.
