Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for Fernie and the Elk Valley.
Hazardous winter conditions are expected, with wind speeds of 50 km/h gusting to 70 through the valleys and heavy snow resulting in poor visibility and rapidly accumulating snow tonight (Nov. 28).
The snow and wind will ease by Saturday morning as the low passes to the south.
Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.
Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
