Who knew that grocery shopping could make a direct impact on health care? But that is exactly what happened thanks to a recent fundraiser for EKFH’s Starlite Campaign.

When Overwaitea Foods (Fernie and Kimberley) and SaveOn (Cranbrook)joined together to conduct the Help Light a Star promotion, shoppers were encouraged to donate More Rewards Points and/or financial donations as they went through the tills. With every 1,000 or more points the stores would match the point total and make a $2 donation to East Kootenay Foundation for Health.

Board members and volunteers from EKFH and the Elk Valley Hospital Foundation joined in on the fun by doing some grocery bagging and sharing coffee, cookies and smiles which to the delight of the store managers helped toward the success of the promotion.

In the end, it was the generosity of the shoppers and the three communities who helped raise $4,000 in Overwaitea and SaveOn first involvement with the Starlite Campaign. Recently the three store managers were able to meet up with EKFH board members to make the cheque presentation. The funds collected will be distributed equally into EKFH stewarded funds held for either a hospital or health care facility in Fernie, Cranbrook, and Kimberley.
