Columbia Basin non-profit organizations and First Nations have a timely opportunity to significantly improve their environmental impact through the Non-Profit SMART Grants initiative. These grants specifically help groups across our region reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enhance energy efficiency, generate renewable energy, and adapt to climate change.
Electric Vehicles and Charging Stations
Under the Electric Vehicles and Charging Stations stream, eligible organizations can apply for funding to purchase one new electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle and up to two charging stations. This offers a practical way for community-focused groups to actively demonstrate environmental responsibility while reducing operating costs.
Renewable Energy and Building Improvements
Additionally, the Renewable Energy and Improvements to Buildings stream provides support for installing solar photovoltaic arrays, energy efficiency retrofits, and other building improvements. This can significantly decrease energy consumption, lower ongoing expenses, and promote sustainability.
Who Can Apply?
• The Non-Profit SMART Grants are open to a wide range of community-based non-profits and First Nations in the Columbia Basin region, including but not limited to:
• Social service agencies, organizations, or societies
• BC Métis societies, associations, and Chartered Communities
• Food banks and food recovery initiatives
• Libraries and reading centres
• Seniors societies or associations
• Community halls and visitor centres
• Arts, culture, and heritage venues (theatres, galleries, museums)
• Non-profit childcare facilities
Community Impact
These grants represent a valuable investment in our community’s sustainable future. Non-profits are often pivotal in demonstrating leadership in climate action, and funding these projects will enable them to operate more sustainably and cost-effectively.
Organizations are encouraged to apply and take a proactive step toward sustainability and energy resilience. Interested groups can visit the Columbia Basin Trust website for more details and application guidelines.
Together, we can foster a cleaner, more sustainable Columbia Basin region!
