The City of Fernie is inviting residents to participate in a community survey regarding the urgent need for a new fire hall facility.
Fernie’s former Fire Hall on 3rd Avenue was decommissioned in 2022 due to structural and functional inadequacies, leaving the Fernie Fire and Emergency Services operating from a temporary location. Currently based in the former Public Works office at 1492b Railway Avenue, firefighters are also utilizing a leased Atco trailer for turnout gear and the City’s Operations Facility for fleet storage. This temporary arrangement results in inefficient response procedures, adding critical minutes during emergencies.
A new, properly designed fire hall is essential for maintaining rapid emergency response and effective fire protection for the Fernie community. Residents’ feedback through this survey will help guide the planning and development of this critical infrastructure.
The City of Fernie has taken a significant step forward in the development of its new fire hall by awarding a contract for preconstruction services, see the details here.
The survey is short and all residents are encouraged to provide their input. Take the Fire Hall survey here.
