Fernie native Kaleb Barnum made a notable entry into the World Cup ski cross circuit, finishing 30th in his debut race at Idre Fjäll, Sweden. This achievement is particularly commendable given the challenges Barnum faced earlier in the season.
In February 2025, during a European Cup race in Les Contamines, France, Barnum suffered significant injuries, including a concussion, torn rotator cuff, and lower back injury. After intensive rehabilitation in Calgary, he returned to competition in March, securing his first Top 10 finish with an eighth-place result in Reiteralm, Austria.
Reflecting on his World Cup debut, Barnum expressed his enthusiasm: “It felt awesome, and it was so much fun! I’m very grateful for the opportunity to represent Canada.”
Looking ahead, Barnum is set to compete in the 2025 FIS World Junior Ski Cross Championships in Isola 2000, France, from April 3 to 6, aiming to defend his 2024 Junior World Champion title.
Barnum’s journey from local slopes in Fernie to international competitions showcases his resilience and dedication to ski cross. The community eagerly supports him as he continues to represent Canada on the world stage.
