Outside Magazine has named Fernie as one of the “20 Dream Towns and Adventure Hideouts – New Best Places to Live and Play.” One of only two Canadian communities selected, Fernie was joined on the list by Pelee Island, Ontario.
“Outside Magazine points out something that Fernie’s residents and visitors have known for a long time; our history, natural beauty, and sense of community make this one of the best places to live in the world,” asserted Mayor Randal Macnair.
The Outside article focuses on the special places that people seek out to escape big city life. They’re looking for “the comfort of community, but want wilderness and possibilities for wandering right out the back door,” states the author.
Fernie’s pristine wilderness is unmatched; with Coal Creek, Cedar Valley, and the towering Lizard Range just beyond the door, the possibilities abound for outdoor recreation and a true experience of nature. As Fernie celebrates its Centennial Year in 2004, this latest accolade is a fitting tribute to this beautiful and historic mountain community.
Outside Magazine is one of the foremost outdoor lifestyle magazines in North America, with a paid circulation of 650,000.
