Fernie Field House Sign Unveiling – July 30th 2026
The EVR Summit Centre will be the name of Fernie’s new field house, recognizing a $1-million contribution from Elk Valley Resources toward the community facility.
The Elk Valley Field House Society and Elk Valley Resources announced the name for the multi-purpose recreation and gathering space planned beside the Fernie Aquatic Centre.
Construction of the EVR Summit Centre is expected to begin later this summer.
The facility will include a multi-purpose gymnasium and flexible community spaces designed for sports, fitness programs, cultural events, celebrations and other community activities.
The project was initiated following the closure of the Fernie Community Centre in June 2024. Since then, the Elk Valley Field House Society has worked with community organizations, residents and government partners to develop plans for a replacement facility.
“We are honoured to have EVR’s name associated with this important community asset,” said Antony McElwee of the Elk Valley Field House Society.
“The naming of the EVR Summit Centre recognizes not only a transformational financial contribution, but also EVR’s commitment to helping build stronger, healthier and more connected communities throughout the Elk Valley. Their support has helped move this project from vision to reality.”
EVR announced its $1-million contribution last year. It is the largest private-sector investment in the project and has supported design, planning and fundraising work.
“We recognize how important it is for residents to have access to a year-round space for the community to gather for recreation and community events,” said EVR CEO Mike Carrucan.
“We are proud to support a facility that will bring people together and create lasting benefits for families, organizations and communities across our region.”
The Elk Valley Field House Society continues to raise money and advance development of the facility. The volunteer-led, not-for-profit organization plans to build and operate the new community centre.
