The Everwild Nordic Spa & Hotel Fernie, Basecamp Resorts Fernie project, is moving from early groundwork into a defined pre-construction phase, with timelines and scope now clearly outlined.
The project is positioned as a combined Nordic spa and boutique hotel development along the Elk River, targeting both destination visitors and local use as a year-round wellness anchor.
As of the latest investor update, site preparation was completed in 2025, clearing a key early hurdle and enabling the project to advance toward construction. The development team is now working with a general contractor to finalize the construction budget and execution plan, which is typically the last major step before breaking ground.
Construction is targeted to begin this Spring, pending final regulatory approvals, with a projected opening in late 2027.
In terms of scale, the Fernie build is expected to include a 70-room hotel and a Nordic spa facility with approximately 200 lockers, positioning it as a mid-sized, high-throughput wellness destination rather than a small boutique spa. The intent is to create a flagship experience for the region, tapping into Fernie’s established four-season tourism base and growing demand for wellness-focused travel.
Financially, the Fernie asset remains a core component of Basecamp’s Wildwood Investment Fund, with approximately $14.8 million allocated to the project as part of a broader $50M+ capital raise across Fernie, Banff, and Harmony developments. The fund structure anticipates returns driven by integrated hotel and spa operations, with Fernie positioned as one of three anchor properties in the portfolio.
From a strategic standpoint, Basecamp is clearly betting on Fernie’s evolution beyond a traditional ski town into a year-round, experience-driven destination, where wellness infrastructure like Nordic spas becomes a central draw. The company’s early performance in Canmore—where spa integration has driven higher occupancy, rates, and guest spend—is informing the Fernie model.
The Fernie project has moved past concept and into execution planning — Fernie will see a significant infrastructure addition come online by late 2027. And yes, the spa will be open for locals!
