The 2025 Discretionary Grant Recipients have been announced by the City of Fernie.
Each year, the City provides financial support to community organizations that enhance local programs, services, and initiatives through its Discretionary Grant Program. For 2025, the City is proud to allocate $11,712.58 in funding to support a variety of youth, literacy, recreation, and community development projects.
A total of $18,212.58 in grant requests were received and reviewed by the Discretionary Grants Committee on November 28, 2024, following the City’s Discretionary Grants Policy. The selected recipients represent a diverse range of initiatives, all aimed at fostering community engagement, inclusion, and well-being.
Here are the 2025 Grant Recipients & Funded Initiatives:
Ghostrider Adventure Camp Foundation – $1,500.00
Supports two at-risk children to attend a one-week adventure camp at no cost, providing an opportunity to explore nature, develop confidence, and build friendships.
Fernie Pride Society – $2,000.00
Funding will go toward the Elk Valley Youth Pride Project, expanding 2SLGBTQ+ youth programming by offering two events per month to encourage social and civic engagement.
Fernie Volleyball Club – $3,000.00
Supports the Shade Structure Project, which will provide a commercial fabric sail shade with a four-post steel structure at the outdoor beach volleyball courts, improving the comfort and accessibility of the space.
Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy – $1,712.58
Funds the Family Fun Time for Newcomers program, a literacy and settlement initiative designed to support immigrant families with school-aged children as they integrate into the Fernie community.
Fernie Elks Lodge #81 – $2,000.00
Helps renew the hall flooring at the Elks Lodge, a facility frequently used by non-profit groups for community events and programs.
Joan Delich Kindergym Society – $1,500.00
Supports 2025 facility hall rentals and facilitator wages for the Fernie Kindergym Program, which provides play-based learning opportunities for children aged 0 to 5 years old.
These grants ensure that valuable community-led programs continue to thrive, benefiting youth, families, and local organizations. The City of Fernie recognizes the dedication and hard work of these groups and their impact on the community.
