Captain Troy MacLachlan

After nearly three decades of dedication, leadership, and service, Captain Troy MacLachlan has officially retired from Fernie Fire Rescue. His final shift was completed yesterday, marking the end of a remarkable 29-year career protecting the Fernie community.

Troy began his journey with Fernie Fire Rescue in February of 1996 as an auxiliary firefighter. His commitment and skill quickly became evident, leading to his appointment as a career firefighter in April 2008. Over the years, Captain MacLachlan became a pillar of the department—recognized for his passion for training, mentorship, and operational excellence.

Known for leading by example, Troy consistently challenged those around him to grow and refine their skills, leaving a lasting impact on generations of Fernie firefighters. His leadership extended beyond the firehall, serving for many years on the Executive of IAFF Local 2827, including a six-year term as President from 2018 to 2024.

“Captain MacLachlan set the standard,” said one colleague. “He pushed us to be better, not just for ourselves, but for the safety of everyone in our community.”

As he hangs up his helmet and enters a well-deserved retirement, the City of Fernie and Fernie Fire Rescue express heartfelt gratitude for Troy’s service. His contributions will resonate for years to come in both the department and the broader community.
