A Gathering of Words, a new writing workshop, is being held in Fernie this coming November 3 to 8th. The event is being organized by Keith Liggett, the founder of the Fernie Writers’ Conference–an event that was mothballed some time ago under other management. Keith lives and writes in Fernie and has spent a decade spreading the good word through education and workshops.
Held in the stone and wooden beam comfort of the Alpine Lodge, A Gathering of Words offers working intensive writing workshops in several genres. Writers commit to an extended time with an instructor to write, edit and share their work with the idea of improving in a positive and concrete manner. The most common comment by past participants is “transformative.”
The workshop format is adaptive and works with writers of all abilities and experience. There are 5-day sessions in Fiction/Non-fiction with Mark Kusnir and Screenwriting with Sioux Browning. The 3-day sessions are Poetry with Tom Wayman, a Fiction/Non-fiction session, and Finding Your Voice with Keith. The groups meet with the leader each morning. The afternoons are spent writing and attending panel discussions. The evenings are filled with readings by both instructors and participants. Saturday the Gathering hosts a dinner at the Alpine Lodge for all participants.
